大村甸镇位于祁阳县境西北，距县城13公里。东与浯溪镇接界，南抵湘江主河道与茅竹镇相望，西与冷水滩区相邻，北与文明铺镇、黎家坪镇相连。镇政府驻大村甸居委会，辖迎新、松树脚、新铺子、显塘、进步、大堰、黄岗铺、光和、罗丫塘、庆阳、漆家坪、大村甸、油木岭、烟竹桥、同心、徐家冲、永福坪、五塘冲、旭光、八一堂、丁家岭、麻托湾、袁家塘、石桥铺、刘家岭、白泥塘、毛塘、前锋、凼桥、湖塘、许家亭、五爱、崇山、立新34个村和大村甸居委会。镇沿用驻地名。解放初，大村甸隶属第一区。1956年撤区并乡时，并为大村甸、何公庙、芳名亭3个乡；1958年人民公社化时为国庆人民公社；1959年5月，人民公社体制调整，成立大村甸人民公社；1961年5月恢复区建制，设大村甸区。1984年4月改社建乡。1995年7月，撤消大村甸区公所，苏油坪乡整体划归浯溪镇，将新铺子乡、大村甸镇、何公庙乡合并成大村甸镇。全镇总面积96平方公里，耕地2126公顷，8105户，35339人。湘桂铁路横穿而过，祁大公路、黎大公路、冷大公路在全镇纵横交错，有“金三角”之美称。该镇是祁阳的产粮基地，又是油茶和芦荟的生产基地。玻璃仪器、石灰石居全县之首位，畅销全国各地。镇经济中乡镇企业和个体私营企业占有较大比重，2002年全镇生产总值12600万元，年财政收入322万元。境内有祁阳县椒山养猪场、祁阳县侨联玻璃仪器厂、广铁水泥厂、湘甸水泥厂、银利来米业有限公司等。设有中学2所，小学11所，医疗机构4个。境内天然溶洞栖真洞传说是八仙之一的吕洞宾修炼之所。明代王国祯奉使广西，过此大书《栖真洞天》，刻于洞顶。洞口有道观遗址，洞壁有宋镌、明镌，诗词数处。栖真洞为一奇特的溶洞群，由厅堂式的前洞和巷道式的后洞组成，洞顶悬垂石钟乳，石花甚多。前洞口左侧有一窄道，下行数十米，有水洞且水质清澈。前洞后右侧，有一大洞，位于前洞之顶层，犹似层楼蔚为奇观，具有相当的开发价值。邮政编码：4256175
