金属型铸造用铸铁、铸钢或其他金属材料制成铸型以生产铸件的一种铸造方法。金属型铸造所用的型芯依铸件结构和形状不同可用金属芯，也可用砂芯。一副金属型的寿命根据浇注金属的种类不同可达数百次乃至数万次，因此金属型铸造又称为永久型铸造。金属型铸造具有悠久的历史，中国战国时期已用金属型铸造多种生产工具，中国古代称金属型为"铁范"。金属型铸造的特点是：铸造过程不用砂或少用砂，容易实现铸造过程机械化和自动化；铸造车间面貌可以得到改善；由于金属型具有较高的导热性和冷却能力，金属凝固后的组织致密，机械性能得以提高。此外，金属型铸件的尺寸精度和表面光洁度较高，机械加工余量减少,冒口尺寸减小,金属利用率得到提高。金属型铸件可小至数十克、大至数吨。铸造合金种类从有色合金到铸铁、铸钢都能适用，以铝合金应用较多。图为浇注铝合金活塞用的金属型。金属型铸造作为少无切削铸造工艺已在飞机、汽车、农业机械、化工机械、仪器仪表等工业方面得到广泛的应用。由于金属型成本较高，多用于成批或大批量生产。参考书目宫克强主编：《特种铸造》，机械工业出版社，北京，1981。
