邮政储蓄邮政部门为方便公众储蓄并为发展国民经济积聚资金而开办的一项金融业务，又称邮政储金。1861年英国创办邮政储蓄，以后日本、意大利、法国、印度等国也相继开办。大多数国家的邮政储蓄以供城乡居民储存小额款项为主，一般分活期储蓄和定期储蓄两大类，并规定储蓄的最低额。有些国家还规定储蓄的最高额，以免受巨额工商业资本的干扰。各国邮政储蓄形式不完全相同。例如日本的邮政储蓄、邮政汇兑和邮政转帐业务结合进行。有些国家邮政还办理外汇储蓄业务，接受外国货币。参加万国邮政联盟的《国际储蓄业务协定》的国家，相互间可以办理国际邮政储蓄业务。中国自197月1日开办邮政储金业务。当时只在各邮政管理局和一、二等邮局办理邮政存簿储金。1930年成立邮政储金汇业总局后，三等邮局和邮政支局也办理存簿储金；各邮政管理局并增办定期储金。设在大城市的邮政储金汇业分局还办理支票储金和贷款业务。中华人民共和国成立后，储蓄业务统一由中国人民银行办理。中国人民邮政在1951～1953年曾代办中国人民银行的储蓄业务。
