分子筛脱蜡利用分子筛的选择吸附特性从汽油、喷气燃料以及柴油等馏分中脱除正构烷烃的过程。因此，它既是炼厂石油产品精制的重要手段，又是液体石蜡(见石油蜡)的重要生产方法。分子筛脱蜡装置早期用于提高汽油的辛烷值，以后发展到用于降低喷气燃料的冰点和制取液体石油蜡，以及生产低凝点柴油。中国在60年代建成了分子筛脱蜡装置（见彩图），现有装置主要用于生产液体石油蜡（作为洗涤剂的原料）。在汽油、煤油和柴油等馏分所含的烃类中,正构烷烃的辛烷值最低而冰点(或凝点)最高，其分子直径(4.9??)比异构烷烃、环烷烃及芳烃等组分的小。因此，采用5??分子筛（微孔孔径为5.2??），可选择性地从混合烃类中吸附正构烷烃，从而达到分离的目的。分子筛脱蜡是气固吸附和脱附的过程。工业过程中的吸附和脱附的操作在两台或多台吸附器中进行。采用不同的脱附剂，其操作条件不同，以用水蒸气为脱附剂的工业过程为例，加热至190～240℃的原料经气化后进入吸附罐吸附其中的正构烷烃。吸附后，用365～375℃的过热水蒸气吹入解吸，脱除正构烷烃。每吨原料耗蒸汽量约4t。工作一段时间后，分子筛表面结焦，活性下降，需用空气烧焦再生。采用水蒸气作脱附剂的好处是操作方便,但污水处理麻烦。除水蒸气外,还可用氢、轻质烷烃、氨等作为脱附剂。它们的好处是避免了废水污染问题。近年来，已开发了吸附和脱附都在液相进行的新技术,采用液氨进行液相脱附,较水蒸气脱附节省能量。
