教科书教科书textbook根据教学大纲编定的系统地反映学科内容的教学用书。又称课本。中国自汉武帝“罢黜百家，独尊儒术”后，在长期的封建社会中，主要以儒家经典为教科书，从汉代的“五经”到宋代的“十三经”。宋以后又把《礼记》中的《大学》、《中庸》两篇连同《论语》、《孟子》合称“四书”。以后历代王朝都以“四书”为科举取士的初级标准教科书。从宋、元时代起，民间流行专为学塾儿童编写的识字课本有《千字文》、《百家姓》和《三字经》等。清末废科举，兴学校，把自然科学、数学列入学校课程。课本多采用外国书籍的译本。1902年，京师大学堂成立编书处，1906年，清政府学部设图书局，是近代中国有计划地编辑成套教科书的开端。外国古代也曾把名人著作或宗教经文当作教科书使用。欧洲最早的流行最广的教科书，是捷克教育家J.A.夸美纽斯编写的《语言与科学入门》、《拉丁语初阶——语言与科学入门的预备课本》和《世界图解》。教科书是教学内容的主要依据，是实现一定教育目的的重要工具，是师生教与学的主要材料，也是考核教学成绩的主要标准。中国现行的教科书是根据各级各类学校各学科教学大纲编写的。但中国幅员辽阔，各地情况不同，除通用课本外，还需编辑补充乡土教材，使教学更加结合实际。编写教科书同编订学校课程一样，是一项科学研究工作。教科书要反映现代科学的最新成果，又需是科学上有定论的基础知识，还要能适合儿童的学习心理，引起他们的求知欲望，激励他们努力解决疑难。它精选科学基础知识，文字简明生动，便于学生理解和掌握。
