单性生殖单性生殖parthenogenesis卵不经精子的刺激而发育成子代的特殊的有性生殖方式。又称孤雌生殖。从发育角度看，卵不需受精而发育成新个体称为单性发育。天然单性生殖动物的单性生殖可分两大类：单倍单性生殖和二倍单性生殖。单倍单性生殖常产生雄性单倍体世代，由经减数分裂的未受精卵单性发育出雄性个体，如蜜蜂。二倍单性生殖只产生二倍体雌性个体，它们和母体在遗传性状上完全相同。二倍单性生殖有两类：专性单性生殖和周性单性生殖。专性单性生殖动物，单性生殖是其唯一的生殖方式，子代全属雌性，即使有雄性个体偶然出现，它的存在与否也不是物种存在的必要条件。在周性单性生殖动物中，二倍单性生殖世代与两性生殖世代交替出现，例如蚜虫。有些双翅目昆虫，如瘿蝇的雌性幼虫即能产生成熟卵子，这种卵子可不经受精发育为雌性幼虫，这种幼虫又能以同法继续增殖后代。这种单性生殖方式称幼体单性生殖。人工单性发育1958～1959年中国胚胎学家朱洗和王幽兰用中华大蟾蜍离体成熟的卵子做实验材料，用改进的涂血针刺法，得到了一批发育正常并完成变态的小蟾蜍。1961年发现达到性成熟的单性发育的雌蟾蜍，注射激素人工催产后，可以正常产卵。所产的卵，经人工授精后，还能正常发育，繁殖出一大批“没有外祖父”的小蟾蜍。从而证实，单性发育的蟾蜍仍具有传宗接代的能力。人工单性发育的子代中，凡是能发育为成体的动物，一般都是二倍体。生物学意义通常单性生殖世系对环境的适应能力和生活力都较差。在自然界中，两性生殖居支配地位，而单性生殖则有很大的局限性。然而，单性生殖在生态适应上也有其有利的一面。由于繁殖速度快，可迅速地产生大量个体，扩大种群数量。在有利的环境条件基本维持不变的时期内，适应能力强的优良品系便能通过单性生殖快速繁殖，广为传播。人工单性生殖的成功说明自然界动物生殖方式的可塑性。同时，还说明卵具有发育为新个体的全部潜能，实验方法可以代替精子发动卵的发育。由于人工单性生殖有利于保存某些优良品系的基因组合，已有人试探应用这种方法繁殖经济鱼类的优良品系。
