晶体力学性质在外力作用下,晶体的力学量产生变化的性质。按外力的大小可分为弹性、塑性和脆性。弹性是指在较小的外力作用下,晶体发生可逆形变的性质。这种性质可用胡克定律描述:sij=λijklσkl;σij=cijklskl 。式中sij 为晶体内的应变张量, 它定义为晶体内某点xj 处所产生的沿 xi方向的对称相对伸缩,这是一个对称二阶张量;σij为晶体内的应力张量,它定义为晶体内部与xj方向垂直的单位面积两边沿xi方向相互作用的力;弹性性质表示应力与应变之间是线性关系,其比例系数 λijkl 是四阶对称张量,称为弹性顺服常数;cijkl也是四阶对称张量,称为弹性劲度常数。外力超过弹性限度时,则晶体产生不可逆的塑性性质。在外力作用下,一部分晶体相对另一部分,以界面上原子相对滑移过若干原子间距,重新达到新的平衡位置而造成局部滑移,这就是塑性流变。它是不可逆的形变。晶体内位错的存在,使塑性流变极易产生。外力进一步增大,使晶体内某些较弱的键破坏,该过程的宏观扩展,使晶体断裂。沿特定晶面产生晶体完全的裂解,称为解理。这是与该晶面对应的较弱键的完全破坏相联系的。晶体的力学性质,无论是弹性、塑性还是脆性,都呈现各向异性。
