国际农业科学技术情报系统联合国粮农组织领导下的国际农业科技情报交流和合作组织。1969年英国农业局和美国国立农业图书馆建议联合国粮农组织成立国际农业情报系统，1972年联合国粮农组织成立农业情报系统协调中心，1973年出版农业文献题录试刊号，1975年国际农业科学技术情报系统正式成立。1989年底有134个国家中心和 19个地区中心或国际中心参加。该系统有 3个地区中心：①亚洲农业情报中心，②欧洲经济共同体农业情报中心，③泛美农业情报中心。中国于1983年参加该系统。国际农业科学技术情报系统搜集、传播世界各国农业和食品科技文献，每年加工题录约14万条，情报产品有农业索引和农业情报数据库。数据库的前处理工作由各成员国分别负责进行；后处理工作由联合国粮农组织总部的农业情报系统的协调中心负责数据的输入、输出、数据库的开发和利用，并负责对各成员国的工作人员进行培训。1977年联合国粮农组织第19次会议决定把国际农业科学技术情报系统的工作列入该组织的永久性和经常性的活动计划。1978年国际农业情报系统协调中心召开各成员国参加的第一次技术磋商会议。此后，每隔 1年召开 1次技术磋商会议，以促进国际农业科技情报系统的发展。1982年该系统出版英、法、德、意、西班牙等语种的农业主题词表，为进一步交流农业科技情报创造了条件。国际农业科学技术情报系统还准备加大文献报道量,增加题录中的文摘比重,并向各成员国发行光盘，使成员国向利用微机检索该系统数据库的方向发展。
